Don't try this at home: the Houthis produced warheads - with artificial intelligence tools
Anthropic admitted that the Houthis used its artificial intelligence tool, Claude Code, to develop warheads and missiles. The company disclosed three weapons programs developed with the assistance of AI, including a guided missile, a ballistic missile and a hypersonic missile. There is concern that the Houthis also used this assistance in an attack in Saudi Arabia.
Anthropic, the maker of the Claude artificial intelligence tool, admitted that the Houthis in Yemen used its products to develop weapons. According to the company's statement, the Houthi militia ran three weapons development programs with the assistance of Claude Code: a guided missile that used a flight computer with an ordinary phone, a multi-stage ballistic missile with a range of more than 1,500 miles, and a multi-variant missile that includes a hypersonic version. The Houthis used Claude Code instead of human software engineers to develop guidance, navigation and control software for the missiles. The company noted that its safeguards blocked many of the Houthis' requests, but not all of them, and that they used evasion tactics. There is concern that the Houthis also used this tool in the recent attack in Saudi Arabia.
