Document submitted to High Court: "143 draft dodgers released because IDF did not arrive at arrest location"
A document submitted to the High Court reveals that 143 draft dodgers have been released by police since July because the IDF did not arrive at the arrest location. Only 14 were arrested in chance encounters. A joint enforcement operation was postponed for the second time.
A day before the state is set to submit its official response to the High Court regarding petitions on ultra-Orthodox conscription, a preliminary document was submitted to the Supreme Court containing data on a failure in enforcement of conscription. According to the document, between July 1 and October 12, 2026, only 14 draft dodgers were arrested in chance encounters with police, while 143 draft dodgers who were arrested randomly were released with an order to report, because military police soldiers did not arrive at the arrest location within the half-hour stipulated by procedure. The Deputy Attorney General clarified that this is a high number indicating a failure in implementing the procedure. It was also reported that a joint enforcement operation planned for October was postponed for the second time, due to police demand for reinforcement of hundreds of soldiers, a demand the IDF deemed unfeasible. The document was sent hours after dozens of Chabad followers returning from the US were detained at Ben Gurion Airport and transferred to Tel Hashomer.
