Development in Gaza: 118,000 elderly face harsh humanitarian conditions

The Ministry of Social Development in Gaza stated that 118,552 elderly people are facing extremely difficult humanitarian, psychological, and economic conditions amid the ongoing war. It noted that among them are 4,412 martyrs and 18,644 wounded, and that 48,830 elderly are inside shelters. It called for urgent protection and international intervention to secure medical care and medicine.

On the International Day of Older Persons, the Ministry of Social Development in the Gaza Strip stated that 118,552 elderly people are facing extremely difficult humanitarian, psychological, and economic conditions amid the ongoing war. The ministry explained that the elderly are among the most vulnerable groups, with declining healthcare, repeated displacement, and psychological pressures. It noted that among them are 4,412 martyrs and 18,644 wounded, and that 48,830 elderly are inside shelters and 67,443 outside them. The ministry affirmed that marking the International Day must turn into a practical call to protect this group. It demanded urgent protection and the intervention of international and humanitarian institutions to secure medical care and vital medicines, especially for those with chronic diseases. It called for sustainable humanitarian mechanisms to care for the elderly inside and outside shelters.
