Police filed an indictment today (Thursday) against Elia Azrad (26) from Bnei Brak, after he was recorded throwing a salt shaker at former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett in a restaurant in the city. Bennett, chairman of the "Together" party, arrived at the restaurant last Thursday to film a video for social media. Azrad was arrested at the scene and is charged with assault, attempted assault, and conduct likely to disturb public peace. Bennett himself was not injured, but his party stated that one of the staff members was hit by the salt shaker and treated on site. In a hearing on extending his detention, it was claimed that Azrad stated that "everything is from God" and called Bennett a "whore." A police representative described the incident as "an attempt to harm a public figure" during a volatile period. Among those present was right-wing activist Mordechai David, who was also recorded shouting at Bennett. Bennett replied: "I suggest you enlist quickly, because from the moment I am prime minister, you won't get a shekel from the state."
