Coffee changes your body - the drink's connection to fat, muscles and hormones
A study has shown that frequent coffee consumption is associated with less fat tissue, greater muscle mass, and changes in sex hormone levels. In men, a link was found with higher testosterone and improved glucose profile, while in women, it was linked to changes in SHBG. The authors emphasize that this is a statistical association, not proof of causation.
A study reported by SciTechDaily has identified a link between regular coffee consumption and changes in body composition and hormonal balance. People who consumed more coffee generally had less total fat tissue and visceral fat, while their skeletal muscle volume was higher. Body mass index did not differ significantly. Blood analysis showed lower concentrations of branched-chain amino acids in coffee drinkers. In men, higher coffee intake was associated with a more favorable glucose and insulin metabolism profile, as well as higher concentrations of total and bioavailable testosterone and SHBG. In women, the association was less pronounced and mainly involved SHBG and free androgen levels. Lead author Luca Verroest from the University of Oulu noted that the results show statistical links but do not prove that coffee itself causes these changes. Previously, "Kursor" reported on a study linking morning coffee consumption to increased life expectancy.
