The Central-Lod District Court today (Wednesday) sentenced Jason Ouda to life imprisonment for the aggravated murder of Yelena Granberg, 27, in 2022 in Rehovot. In addition, Ouda was ordered to pay her family maximum compensation of 258,000 shekels. Ouda and Granberg had been friends for about four years. During that time, he repeatedly asked her to turn the relationship romantic, but she refused. Following the rejection, the court determined, he decided to murder her and burn her body. The sentence described the murder as cruel and premeditated. Ouda attacked her in a car and stabbed her over 10 times with a sharp knife he had purchased and prepared in advance. After the murder, he did not attempt to help her, but moved her body to an isolated location, poured gasoline he had prepared in advance, and was a step away from setting the body on fire. He also took her identification and disposed of personal items. The court ruled that the motive for the murder was her rejection of his advances, which made him feel rejected and frustrated. The Central District Attorney's Office stated that the punishment reflects the severity of the act and conveys a message of protecting the sanctity of life. Attorney Rotem Aloni, representing the family, noted that the family had waited for the verdict for four years and that the murderer used the legal process to prolong their agony.
