A 34-year-old California resident, Ahmad Akhtar, pleaded guilty to attempting to provide support to the terrorist organization Islamic State (ISIS). He surveilled a synagogue in the state and planned to kill a man he believed was a former IDF soldier. Akhtar told an undercover FBI agent that he was watching this man, who attended the synagogue on Saturdays, and was trying to find his address. He also offered to kill him in a random location to make the crime appear like an ordinary murder. Additionally, Akhtar threatened to behead Jews and Christians and requested instructions for making an explosive device for an attack at a mass event. In June, he handed the agent two loaded pistols, ammunition, and $400, and swore allegiance to ISIS. He faces up to 20 years in prison.
