An investigation by the Al Jazeera network has revealed first-ever footage of Mohammed Deif, head of Hamas's military wing, during the planning of the October 7 attack. The footage shows Deif alongside other senior Hamas officials: Khan Younis Brigade Commander Rafa'a Salama, Intelligence Chief Mohammed Odeh, and military wing spokesman Khudhaifa Kahlout (Abu Obeida). The episode broadcast archive tapes in which Deif recounts his life story, including reading about weapons in an Israeli prison and terrorist operations in the 1990s in the West Bank. Also interviewed was Jihad Yarmour, one of the terrorists involved in the kidnapping and murder of soldier Nachshon Wachsman, which was planned by Deif. Deif said that he and Yahya Ayyash established the military wing's armament base, and that after the release of Ahmed Yassin, arming was placed at the top of the agenda. The investigation reveals that Deif, Marwan Issa, and Yahya Sinwar held a meeting where preparations for the massacre began, codenamed "Project Fahd," and that the plan was to be canceled if there was an improvement in the situation at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the condition of security prisoners.
