Lieberman wrote that he was shocked to learn of Altman's death and described him as a man of the land in the full sense of the word, a man of values, activity, and helping others. Altman was considered a prominent public figure involved in issues of preserving state lands and developing rural areas. He led the "Green Patrol," a state project for protecting open lands, and also served as an advisor to the Minister of Defense on settlement and agricultural affairs. In the last decade, Altman headed the nonprofit organization "Admati," whose goal was to preserve farmers' rights and protect the heritage of old agricultural settlements established before the founding of the State of Israel. Altman's death is a heavy loss for agricultural settlements and the Israeli agrarian community.
