Protesters in Gaza: "Ben Gvir" turns occupation prisons into arenas of threats and murder

The Prisoners Committee of the National and Islamic Forces and the Supreme National Committee for the Families of Prisoners in the Gaza Strip confirmed that the storming of the cell of prisoner Hassan Salama by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and his threats to kill and execute him represent a dangerous escalation against prisoners. The two committees, during a weekly sit-in in front of the Red Cross in Gaza, called on the international community and human rights institutions to intervene to protect prisoners.

The Prisoners Committee of the National and Islamic Forces and the Supreme National Committee for the Families of Prisoners in the Gaza Strip confirmed that the storming of the cell of prisoner and leader Hassan Salama by the so-called National Security Minister in the occupation government, Itamar Ben Gvir, and his direct threats to kill and execute him represent a dangerous escalation against the prisoner movement and reveal the scale of risks threatening the lives of prisoners inside occupation prisons. This came during the weekly sit-in of prisoners' families in front of the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Gaza City, on Monday. The two committees called on the international community and human rights and humanitarian institutions, foremost the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations, to assume their responsibilities towards the prisoners and work to protect them and guarantee their legal and human rights amid the continuation of policies of isolation, deprivation, limited medical care, and abuse inside prisons. Released prisoner Majdi Yassin considered that the timing of the escalation coincides with the intensification of political and electoral competition inside the occupied territories. The escalation comes amid the existence of the prisoners' execution law passed by the Knesset in March 2026. Ben Gvir stormed prisoner Salama's cell and published a post on his account on the "X" platform in which he vowed to work to execute Palestinian prisoners.
