At least two dead, six reported missing after migrant shipwreck off Tunisia's coast

German charity Sea-Watch reported that its rescue ship Aurora found five survivors and two dead bodies, including a child, in a deflated rubber dinghy off Tunisia's coast early Tuesday. The charity also rescued another 23 survivors from an offshore platform. Survivors reported at least six people missing, including three children. The Aurora is heading to Lampedusa. Sea-Watch criticized European governments for celebrating falling arrival numbers while people continue to die. Over 22,000 migrants have arrived in Italy in 2026, and more than 1,970 have died or gone missing in the Mediterranean this year.

Over 22,000 sea migrants have arrived in Italy so far in 2026, compared to over 50,000 in the same period of 2025.
