Apple unveiled a new MacBook Pro series with touchscreens this evening, breaking a historical taboo established by company founder Steve Jobs. The computers, available in 14- and 16-inch sizes, are equipped with a dual PROLED XDR OLED panel with peak brightness of 2,000 nits, and incorporate the Dynamic Island familiar from the iPhone instead of a camera notch. The processors, M5 Pro and M5 Max, were designed by Israeli engineers at Apple's development centers in Israel, and offer a dedicated neural accelerator for running large language models locally. The computers are significantly lighter and thinner than previous generations: the 14-inch model weighs 1.36 kg and the 16-inch model weighs 1.8 kg, with a battery providing up to 24 hours of work. Pre-orders open today, and shipments will begin on November 6. Prices start at $2,899 for the 14-inch model with M5 Pro.
