Suspect in theft of tokens worth millions of dollars extradited to the US

Alexander Blok (Gurevich), an Israeli and Russian citizen, was extradited to the US on suspicion of stealing tokens worth millions of dollars from the crypto platform "Nomad" by exploiting a security vulnerability. The Supreme Court set landmark precedents regarding the interpretation of "computer intrusion" and money laundering on the blockchain.

Alexander Blok (Gurevich), an Israeli and Russian citizen, was extradited to the US to stand trial for fraud, computer-related activity, transfer of stolen goods, and money laundering. The extradition was carried out in cooperation with the Israel Police after the conclusion of legal proceedings in Israel. According to the suspicion, at the end of July 2022, Blok exploited a security vulnerability in the crypto platform "Nomad" and stole tokens worth approximately $2.8 million. He altered the computer code so that the system issued him digital representation without consideration, and then converted the tokens into various currencies and transferred them between wallets to obscure the source of the funds. During the proceedings, the Supreme Court set landmark precedents: the term "computer intrusion" was broadly interpreted to also apply to exploiting security vulnerabilities, and it was determined that the public nature of blockchain networks does not negate the offense of money laundering. Blok's attorney, Sharon Nahari, stated that Blok denies the allegations and that the claims will be clarified in the US court.
