Fox, who turned his Parkinson's disease diagnosis into a global advocacy campaign, was wheeled onto the stage and received a standing ovation. In his speech, he said that he initially kept the diagnosis a secret for fear of losing relationships, but realized that accepting the disease is not a surrender. The Television Academy justified the decision to award him the prize for his transformative contribution to disease research. Fox, who has won five Emmy Awards throughout his career, recently returned from retirement to appear in the Apple TV+ series "Shrinking."
