After 20 years: 85-year-old embarks on arduous journey to meet her 105-year-old mother

Sushila, 85, from India, was reunited with her mother Sitamma, 105, after nearly 20 years of separation. The meeting was made possible by a complex family operation: the grandchildren drove Sushila in an off-road vehicle through difficult forest terrain, and then helped her cross a steep mountainous section on foot to reach her mother's isolated home.

Sushila, 85, was reunited with her mother Sitamma, 105, for the first time in nearly twenty years. The two, living in different villages in India, had to make do with memories due to a lack of transportation infrastructure: no paved road leads to Sitamma's home, and the route includes an off-road drive through dense forest, a 1.5-kilometer descent down a steep hill, and crossing a flowing stream. The grandchildren mobilized for a family operation: they drove Sushila in a specialized jeep through the forest terrain, and at the point where the vehicle could no longer continue, the 85-year-old got out and, with close assistance, slowly walked along the mountain path to the doorstep. At the end of the journey, the door opened and the two women fell into each other's arms. Grandson Keshava described: "Our wish was to take Grandma to meet her mother. The advanced age and the lack of a proper road made it impossible for a long time, but now we finally managed to make it happen."
