A dumbbell fell on the head of a 9-year-old boy – and then what his mother did was revealed
A mother from Florida was arrested at the airport after leaving her four minor children unsupervised for days. The arrest occurred after one of the children called emergency services following his 9-year-old brother's injury from a dumbbell that fell on his head. The mother is charged with four counts of child neglect.
A mother from the Florida area was arrested by sheriff's deputies immediately upon landing at the airport, after it was discovered that she had left her four minor children without adult supervision for days to go on a work trip. The incident came to light when one of the children called emergency services following his 9-year-old brother's injury from a dumbbell that fell on his head. Deputies from Osceola County, Florida, waited last Friday for Irene Miller, 50, at the exit of her flight returning from Las Vegas, escorted her through the terminal, and handcuffed her. The arrest occurred two days after her daughter called emergency services. The incident began on October 21, when one of her children dialed 911. Deputies found four minor children – ages nine, eleven, twelve, and fourteen – alone without a responsible adult. The injured child was taken to Celebration Hospital, treated, and released. The mother claimed she was in Las Vegas for work and planned to return on October 23, but police discovered she had left Florida on October 18. In her defense, she said she had arranged a babysitter, but the sheriff's office stated the babysitter was not required to stay overnight. The father picked up the children, and the mother was jailed at the Orange County Jail on four counts of child neglect. Sheriff Chris Blackmon emphasized a strict enforcement policy.
