Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan and Karnei Shomron local council head Yehonatan Kuznits toured the construction site of the Funduk bypass road today (Tuesday), which will open to traffic in December. During the tour, held together with officials from Netivei Israel, it was reported that this summer the road, also known as "Mevo HaShomron," will be expanded and become a dual carriageway. The new road bypasses the Palestinian village of Al-Funduk in western Samaria, through which Route 55 passes between the Emmanuel and Kedumim junctions. The order for paving the bypass was signed in February 2023 by then-Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, one day after the shooting attack in Huwara. In January 2025, terrorists murdered three Israelis in a shooting attack at the Funduk junction, and following the attack, work was accelerated. The project budget, initially estimated at about 200 million shekels, has grown and now stands at a quarter of a billion shekels. In parallel, planning is advancing to double Route 55 along its entire length, from Kfar Saba to the Gilad junction.
