Shas party recommends Netanyahu for prime minister
Shas's Council of Torah Sages decided to recommend Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to President Isaac Herzog for forming the next government, citing his commitment to regulating the status of Torah scholars. United Torah Judaism has not yet decided.
The Council of Torah Sages of Shas decided today (Tuesday) to recommend to President Isaac Herzog that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu be his candidate to form the next government. The decision was made following Netanyahu's commitment to continue working to regulate the status of Torah scholars. The party's statement said the decision was made in light of Netanyahu's clear and uncompromising announcement. At the same time, Shas harshly attacked the left-wing parties, which it said led a campaign of vilification and persecution against the Haredi public and are now trying to court it. "The hypocrisy of the left-wing parties is screaming to the heavens," the movement stated. In contrast, United Torah Judaism has not yet made a final decision, and assessments are growing that the faction will refrain from recommending Netanyahu or Gadi Eisenkot.
