Video of Yair Golan with a kippa circulated online – and drove him off the handle
Yair Golan, chairman of the Democrats party, sent a legal warning letter to Blue and White chairman Benny Gantz and his party, following an election video published on Gantz's Facebook account. Golan claims that the image in which he appears wearing a kippa was created using artificial intelligence, and demands that the video be removed or that a clarification be added by tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
Yair Golan, chairman of the Democrats party, sent a legal warning letter today (Wednesday) to Blue and White chairman Benny Gantz and his party, following an election video published on Gantz's Facebook account. The video presents a series of quotes attributed to Golan, including "The IDF is an army of occupation" and "These are not people, these are subhumans," alongside his statement that "A sane state does not wage war against civilians, does not kill babies as a hobby." At the end of the video, Golan's image transforms into that of National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, under the message: "In short, Yair, don't be the Ben Gvir of the left." The warning letter, sent through the legal counsel of the Democrats party, does not address the content of the quotes, but rather the image in which Golan appears wearing a kippa. Golan claims that the image was created using artificial intelligence (Deepfake), and that distributing the video without proper disclosure violates Section 2A2 of the Elections Law (Propaganda Methods), which requires clear and prominent indication that visual content was created by digital means. The Democrats party demands that Gantz and Blue and White remove the video or add a prominent clarification by tomorrow at 10:00 AM. If the demand is not met, the party will approach the chairman of the Central Elections Committee to request injunctions and take additional legal remedies.
