The Victory supermarket chain revealed its method of tracking customers using credit card data, and following the defense attorney's claims of illegal use of personal information, most theft charges against two customers were dropped. Two customers of the Victory branch at the Ayalon Mall were charged with a series of thefts, after the chain's security officers checked their previous purchases and identified suspicions of additional incidents. The police prosecution dropped the charges related to the previous incidents, leaving in each case only the charge related to the incident in which the defendants were caught, and transferred the cases to a conditional discharge track that ends without a criminal record. The question of the legality of the check was not decided in court. At the center of the affair are a 63-year-old woman and a man, against whom indictments were filed at the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court. The defense attorney argued that the use of the information exceeded the purposes of the database and violated the provisions of the Privacy Protection Law.
