India has launched an independent investigation into an alleged attempted terrorist attack aboard a FlyDubai aircraft en route to Israel. The case has been handed over to India's National Investigation Agency (NIA), which specializes in terrorist crimes. The main question for investigators is whether the co-pilot from Oman, Hammam al-Hammami, acted alone or was part of a larger international conspiracy. According to preliminary data, he intended to direct the passenger plane toward Ben Gurion Airport, inspired by the September 11 attacks. The captain of the aircraft, Indian citizen Smith Machhar, sustained severe head injuries but managed to prevent a catastrophe. His condition is improving after a complex surgery. Consideration is being given to awarding the captain the Medal of Civilian Heroism by the President of Israel. India intends to use intelligence data from Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE to verify possible connections of the suspect.
