Ukraine targets Moscow with hundreds of drones
Moscow was subjected to a massive Ukrainian drone attack, with air defenses detecting 613 drones over ten hours and shooting down most of them. TASS described the attack as the largest since the beginning of the year. Separately, The Atlantic revealed a secret memo warning Ukrainian officers of a "catastrophe" related to the Starlink service. Politically, the Kremlin linked the date of trilateral talks to developments in the Middle East.
The Russian capital Moscow was subjected to a massive Ukrainian drone attack on Thursday. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the detection of 613 drones over ten hours, confirming that air defenses shot down most of them before they reached the capital, while 231 drones were destroyed as they approached the city directly. The Russian news agency TASS described the attack as one of the largest drone attacks on Moscow since the beginning of the year. In a related development, The Atlantic magazine revealed a secret memo addressed to Ukrainian military officers on October 11, urging them to prepare for what it described as a "catastrophe," amid fears of restrictions on the Starlink service owned by Elon Musk. The magazine quoted two informed sources that the service disruption directly contributed to the loss of drones in the Black Sea. Politically, Kremlin foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov said that the date of the next round of trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States has become linked to developments in the conflict in the Middle East, raising doubts about its convening within the next month, noting that Moscow has not yet set a new date. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had expressed hope for the meeting to be held in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi between November 6 and 10, but Ushakov considered that the current situation in the Middle East does not allow for talks in the near future.
