A sharp public confrontation erupted between US President Donald Trump and CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins over the political price Washington paid to Moscow for the release of American citizen Steven Hubbard. The clash began when Collins confronted the president with his previous statements, in which he strongly claimed that the United States gave nothing to Russia in return. Trump began explaining the background of the negotiations, but Collins interrupted him and pointed out the contradiction in his words. As the questions became more focused, the president's tone turned aggressive, and he called Collins 'stupid' and a 'fake news channel.' Steven Hubbard is a 74-year-old American citizen, a former teacher, who was arrested in Russia in the spring of 2022 and held for over four years. His release came following secret diplomatic negotiations.
