A tragedy in the US: Dale Ellis Martin, a 21-year-old woman from New York, arrived at Waterbury Hospital in Connecticut for treatment after fracturing her ankle while working on a farm. Instead of recovering, her condition deteriorated and she died suddenly. Her family is suing the hospital, alleging medical malpractice and an overdose of painkillers that led to her death. According to the lawsuit, within 14 hours of her admission to the hospital on April 10, 2025, Martin received a large amount of painkillers, after which her breathing stopped. Her family members claim that the medical staff did not monitor her condition and did not identify the danger in time. It is also alleged that the drugs caused her to become disoriented, preventing her from calling for help. Only the next morning did a nurse come to check on her, but by then her heart had stopped beating. Autopsy results determined the cause of death was cardiac arrest due to painkillers. Her father said he was in shock when he received the phone call from the hospital. The lawsuit raises questions about the hospital's conduct, which was owned by Prospect Medical Holdings, a company that filed for bankruptcy in January 2025 and was under investigation over allegations of deficiencies. The family's attorney argued that the company reduced infrastructure and staff while trying to generate profits. A hospital representative declined to comment.
