Tragedy at school - teenager opens fire on classmates

On the morning of September 22, a shooting occurred at a school in the city of Turgutlu, Manisa Province, western Turkey. A ninth-grade student at the Niyazi Yümez Anatolian Technical Lyceum brought a shotgun into the educational institution and opened fire on his classmates. According to the Turkish publication Sozcu, four teenagers were wounded, two of them in serious condition. The shooting began around 8 a.m. The attacker left the school on foot but was apprehended by police shortly after—he was identified through surveillance camera footage that captured his arrival at the building and his departure after the attack. The suspect has been identified as a student in the 9-C class of the same lyceum. The motives for his actions have not yet been disclosed. The governor of Manisa confirmed the shooting on his social media accounts. Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation to determine how the teenager managed to bring a weapon into the school without hindrance. Classes at the lyceum have been temporarily suspended.
