"They failed": father of October 7 victim calls for truth to be revealed

The father of an IDF soldier killed on October 7, 2023 at the Nahal Oz base accused the authorities of lying and demanded the establishment of a state commission of inquiry into the events of that day. Eyal Eshel also spoke about death threats he received due to his criticism of the government.

Eyal Eshel, the father of Roni Eshel, who was killed on October 7, 2023 during the Hamas attack on the Nahal Oz military base, issued sharp accusations against the Israeli authorities and military leadership. At the "Law and Lies" conference in Tel Aviv, he stated that the families of the victims are being systematically deceived and demanded the establishment of a state commission of inquiry into the events of October 7 — an initiative not supported by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Eshel recounted that his daughter was among the 16 soldiers of the intelligence unit killed at the base. According to him, the women repeatedly warned about the terrorists' preparations for an attack, but their reports were ignored. He also reported death threats he received after October 7, mainly from government supporters. The police identified one of the threateners, conducted an interrogation, but only imposed a 21-day restraining order from the family home. Eshel urged voters to favor politicians willing to tell the truth and vowed to ensure the international community knows about Israel's failure on October 7.
