Police have uncovered a large-scale financial fraud case in which contractors working in the Gaza Strip exploited the war to steal millions of shekels from the Ministry of Defense. 21 suspects were arrested this morning in a nationwide operation by Lahav 433 and the Military Police. Among the main suspects: Ran Rahamani (74) from Afula, owner of a contracting company working with the Ministry of Defense, suspected of inflating the scope of work he performed in the Strip; Elisha Yifrach, suspected of issuing fictitious invoices for fuel he did not supply; Yosef Abu Ammar, suspected of stealing IDF fuel and bribing sergeants; and tax consultant Zidan Abu Ammar, in whose home 600,000 shekels in cash and gold were seized. According to the suspicion, the contractors stole fuel worth millions of shekels and submitted invoices for work they did not perform. IDF sergeants are suspected of linking the army to the contractors. A source in the investigation said: "The suspects exploited the great chaos that was in Gaza to steal millions of shekels." The investigation was conducted by the National Unit for Economic Enforcement South in Lahav 433, alongside the Central Unit for Special Investigations in the Military Police and VAT Investigations Be'er Sheva.
