The surprising name as a candidate for State Comptroller: Acting Director General of the Elections Committee

Three Knesset members approached attorney Dean Livne, acting director general of the Central Elections Committee, and examined his willingness to present his candidacy for State Comptroller. In the Change Bloc, they plan to push for new elections, but it is not yet clear whether the race will be opened to additional candidates.

Three Knesset members from the coalition and the outgoing opposition approached attorney Dean Livne, acting director general of the Central Elections Committee, and examined the feasibility of presenting his candidacy for the position of State Comptroller. The approach comes after the High Court of Justice ordered new elections for the position, following a flaw in the secrecy of the vote in the previous round. Now the Knesset must decide whether to open the race to new candidates or hold new elections between the two previous candidates, attorney Michael Rabillo and Judge Yosef Elron. Opening the race could delay the elections until December. The state has been without a comptroller for many months.
