The news thousands of customers who switched electricity providers received: you owe hundreds of shekels

Thousands of customers of private electricity providers are receiving dramatic corrections to their electricity bills, which can reach up to a thousand shekels per month, due to a gap between Noga's estimates and the physical meter reading of the Israel Electric Corporation. The problem only affects owners of old meters, and providers complain of reputational damage.

Thousands of customers of private electricity providers are receiving dramatic corrections to their electricity bills, which can reach up to a thousand shekels per month. This stems from a gap between the monthly estimates of Noga, the system manager, and the physical meter reading of the Israel Electric Corporation. The problem only affects owners of old, non-smart meters. Dudi Landsmann, CEO of Super Power, says that in June and July they received corrections for thousands of meters, and that customers blame the providers, harming their reputation. The Israel Electric Corporation promises that by the first quarter of 2028, all 3.6 million meters in Israel will be replaced with smart ones. Meanwhile, the Electricity Authority published a hearing on November 1, 2026, attempting to fix the problem of late assignment to a private provider and prevent overpayments. Customers can check when a smart meter will arrive for free, or pay 294 shekels to expedite installation.
