The new weight-loss drugs that are changing the world of plastic surgery
Weight-loss drugs from the GLP-1 family are leading to a dramatic increase in requests for plastic surgery, due to excess skin and volume loss after rapid weight loss. An American report reveals a 7% increase in aesthetic procedures in 2025, and in Israel there has been a 280% increase in consultation requests. The most sought-after surgeries: liposuction, breast augmentation, and tummy tuck.
Popular weight-loss drugs, especially from the GLP-1 family, are revolutionizing not only the field of weight loss but also the world of plastic surgery. A new report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reveals that 82% of surgeons in the US received inquiries in 2025 related to weight loss using these drugs. Overall, there was a 7% increase in the volume of aesthetic procedures compared to last year. The most requested surgeries were liposuction, breast augmentation, and tummy tuck. People aged 66 and over recorded the biggest jump – 24% – while among young people aged 18-25 there was a 9% decrease. In Israel, the trend is even more pronounced: Dr. Meir Cohen, chairman of the Organization of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgeons in Israel, reports a 280% increase in consultation requests following weight loss using weight-loss drugs. The procedure that saw the biggest increase in the US is facial fat grafting (39%), compared to 14% in Israel. Dr. Cohen recommends waiting 3-6 months after weight stabilization before surgery, maintaining protein intake and strength training, and treating the injections as a supportive tool only.
