The Houthis escalate: deadly attack in Saudi Arabia and battles in Bab el-Mandeb

The escalation between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia is intensifying: a drone attack on the Taif province in the western kingdom resulted in the death of a Yemeni resident and two injuries—a Saudi woman and a Pakistani citizen seriously wounded. Debris from the aircraft, which was intercepted over the area, fell in a populated area, causing damage to buildings and vehicles. Meanwhile, fighting within Yemen continues: the Yemeni army, affiliated with the internationally recognized government, announced that at least 30 Houthi fighters were killed and over 60 wounded during a day of battles and strikes in the Al-Wazaiya area, west of Taiz. The army attacked Houthi vehicles, troop concentrations, and supply lines in Taiz and the Mocha area, near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The escalation follows a rapid Houthi advance along Yemen's Red Sea coast and their seizure of strategic areas, heightening fears for shipping lanes and Saudi energy infrastructure. Tens of thousands of Yemenis have fled the combat zones, and according to international reports, the number of displaced in the latest wave of fighting has surpassed 100,000 people.
