The drone that killed two soldiers in Gaza: "Such a thing should not happen"

Two reserve soldiers were killed by an explosion of an IDF drone of the "Atalef" type. Drone expert Rotem Rogovsky explained on 103FM how the drone operates, warned of the growing threat of cheap drones on the battlefield, and expressed confidence that an Israeli solution will arrive within the next year.

Two reserve soldiers, Master Sergeant Nadav Kley and Master Sergeant Ofek Mualem, were killed by an explosion of an IDF drone of the "Atalef" type in the Gaza Strip. Rotem Rogovsky, an expert in countering drones, spoke with 103FM and explained that it is an FPV (First Person View) drone operated by an operator wearing virtual reality goggles. The drone, which entered service in the last two years, carries explosives and is intended to assist maneuvering forces. Rogovsky refused to comment on the specific details of the incident, as it is still under investigation. He emphasized that the drone threat exists in all sectors — Gaza, Lebanon, and Judea and Samaria — and that the battlefield has changed. According to him, these drones are cheap, easy to build, and their parts can be ordered from AliExpress, making it difficult to identify shipments. He noted that Israel's defense industries are working on a solution to the problem and expressed optimism that a solution will arrive within the next year. Rogovsky warned that the next war will be a war of robots and drones.
