Terrible compromise - what the US is preparing for Ukraine
The US and Europe are preparing a plan to end the war in Ukraine, including economic and military guarantees, but with the condition of a territorial compromise. The package consists of four parts: reconstruction of Ukraine, security guarantees, an energy deal, and freezing the front line. Negotiations are taking place against the backdrop of Trump's diesel deal with Moscow, which undermines the sanctions regime.
The US and Europe are jointly developing a plan to end the war in Ukraine, which includes a package of economic and military guarantees, but with the heavy condition of a territorial compromise. This is reported by the Washington Post, citing an American official and a European diplomat. The package consists of four parts: reconstruction of Ukraine with the participation of the World Bank and BlackRock; security guarantees equivalent to NATO Article 5; an energy deal involving the construction of a pipeline for Russian oil and gas to Europe with profit sharing; and freezing the front line, meaning Russia retains control over occupied territories, including Donbas. The negotiations are taking place against the backdrop of a deal between US President Donald Trump and Moscow on the sale of diesel fuel, which, according to the newspaper, undermines the sanctions law against Russia. American negotiators Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff asked Kyiv about six times to stop strikes on oil refineries. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky refused, after which Trump threatened to stop intelligence support. A six-hour meeting in Florida brought together Ukrainian officials and representatives of the UK, France, and Germany. European leaders are unhappy with the diesel deal but are ready to continue the diplomatic process.
