IDF strikes two suspects observing troops in southern Lebanon
The IDF struck two suspects who were observing Israeli forces near Kfar Kila in southern Lebanon, removing a threat to troops operating in the security area. The military stated it remains committed to the agreement between Israel and Lebanon.
The IDF eliminated two militants in Lebanon near the village of Kafr Kila, after weeks of refraining from enforcement operations against Hezbollah militants who approached the Yellow Line. The move was intended to send a message to Hezbollah and Iran that Israel is determined to enforce the Yellow Zone, and that it will not allow a unification of arenas between Iran and Lebanon in the event of an American attack on Iran. Meanwhile, the negotiations between Lebanon and Israel are stalled. A Lebanese official source told the newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat that the dispute concerns who will ensure that the "test areas" in the south are free of weapons. Lebanon rejects the Israeli proposal to assign the task to non-governmental organizations, and Israel rejects the Lebanese proposal to assign it to UN observers. According to the source, the Lebanese army has carried out more than 1,200 weapons clearance operations in the village of Zoutar al-Gharbiya alone.
