A young man from Rahat, in his 20s, is accused of pulling out an M16 rifle during a family dispute, aiming it at his father, grandmother and children, and opening fire near a school in the city. According to the indictment, the incident occurred after he arrived with his family members at a school parking lot near the family home, where an argument escalated into a violent brawl. After the family separated those involved, the young man got into another confrontation with a family member who threatened him with a stick. At that point, he ran home, came out with a long-barreled M16 rifle, aimed it at his family members – including his father, grandmother and children – and fired. Two family members tried to stop him and take the weapon, but he prevented them, moved toward the school while firing into the air, entered the school, fired additional shots, and fled. He was arrested the next day. During his investigation, he denied the allegations, even after being shown security camera footage, claiming he does not remember the incident and never touched a weapon. The Southern District Prosecutor's Office charges him with offenses of firing a firearm and carrying and transporting a weapon. The indictment states there is concern that the defendant acted with extreme violence toward his family members and neighbors, and only by miracle no one was killed or injured.
