Syria: Frenchman belonging to an armed faction killed in exchange of fire with security forces
Syrian security forces announced the killing of a French gunman belonging to the "Firqat al-Ghuraba" faction led by Omar Diaby, during an exchange of fire in Idlib province, after an armed group left the Harem camp in violation of a ceasefire agreement.
Syrian security forces announced on Wednesday the killing of a French gunman during an exchange of fire with their personnel in Idlib province in northwestern Syria. The Internal Security Command in Idlib said a patrol spotted an armed group leaving the French camp towards the Harem area in the Idlib countryside, violating an agreement that prohibits leaving the camp with weapons. It added that the group members opened fire on the patrol as it moved to pursue them, prompting a response to the sources of fire, resulting in the death of one member of the armed group and the injury of a civilian. The slain man belonged to the "Firqat al-Ghuraba" faction led by French-Senegalese Omar Diaby, known as Omar Omsen, which is based in a camp on the outskirts of Harem city, housing dozens of French fighters and their families. The group published a statement on Telegram accusing Syrian security of opening fire on a group of its members who had gone to buy food.
