Suspicion: Drunk driver, 20, kills triathlete Tal Gilboa in Golan

Tal Gilboa, a triathlete from Kibbutz Kfar Haruv, was killed yesterday (Saturday) after being hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on Route 98 in the Golan Heights. The driver, a 20-year-old Golan resident, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. His remand was extended until Tuesday.

Tal Gilboa, a triathlete from Kibbutz Kfar Haruv in the southern Golan Heights who previously competed in the "Ironman" competition, was killed yesterday (Saturday) after being hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on Route 98. The driver, a 20-year-old Golan resident, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The accident occurred in the morning hours. Rescue teams called to the scene were forced to pronounce Gilboa dead. An initial investigation by traffic police officers raised suspicion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Police said that a test conducted on him yielded a positive indication of alcohol in his system. The driver was arrested and brought to the Nazareth-Noff HaGalil Magistrate's Court, where his remand was extended until Tuesday, September 29. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident is ongoing by traffic investigators of the Northern District.
