Suspect in arson of sukkah in Jerusalem on racist grounds will remain in custody

The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court extended today (Tuesday) until October 4 the detention of a 52-year-old resident of the Old City, suspected of setting fire to a sukkah in the Agripas area in the city center on racist grounds. The police presented at the hearing the suspect's criminal record, which includes prior convictions for security offenses, armed robbery, drug trafficking, property crimes, assaulting a police officer, breaking into a building, property damage, threats, violating a legal order, and arson. It was also noted that in 2018 he was convicted in four arson cases at the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court, and that he has previously served lengthy prison sentences. The court granted the police's request to extend the detention to complete investigative actions.
