Supreme Court ruled: 14 years in prison for contractor who ran over and killed police volunteer

The Supreme Court rejected the cross-appeals on the sentence of Nissim Sakh, convicted of killing police volunteer Hussam Zaghir and wounding a police officer in Nahariya in 2021, and upheld the 14-year prison sentence. The judges ruled that the actions may warrant an even harsher punishment.

The Supreme Court rejected the cross-appeals of the prosecution and Nissim Sakh, a former contractor and chairman of Hapoel Arraba, and upheld the 14-year prison sentence imposed on him. Sakh was convicted of killing police volunteer Hussam Zaghir and seriously wounding police officer Amir Abu Rish in Nahariya in September 2021. The incident occurred during the Sukkot holiday, after a confrontation at a construction site. Sakh entered his vehicle, ran over the two, and fled. He was initially charged with reckless murder, but under a plea deal pleaded guilty to manslaughter, aggravated assault, and leaving the scene. The District Court sentenced him in July 2024 to 14 years in prison, a suspended sentence, and compensation of 258,000 shekels to each victim. The Supreme Court judges ruled that the actions may warrant an even harsher punishment but did not intervene in the sentence.
