Spain must reverse Sánchez's anti-Israel policies after snap election, Vox lawmaker says

Vox MEP Juan Carlos Girauta calls for a 180-degree shift in Spain's foreign policy toward Israel following the November 29 snap election, criticizing Prime Minister Sánchez's recognition of a Palestinian state, arms embargo, and genocide allegations. The election was triggered by a parliamentary defeat on housing decrees, with current polling giving the PP and Vox a combined majority.

Vox MEP Juan Carlos Girauta is calling for a 180-degree reversal of Spain's foreign policy toward Israel following the November 29 snap general election. In an interview with The Media Line, Girauta criticized Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's policies, including the 2024 recognition of a Palestinian state, the arms embargo on Israel, and Sánchez's characterization of Israel's conduct in Gaza as genocide. Girauta rejects that characterization and opposed the arms embargo. The election was called after Congress rejected two government housing decrees on October 2, with Junts joining the PP and Vox in voting against them. An October 5 poll by RTVE projects 137 seats for the PP and 65 for Vox, a combined 202 in the 350-seat Congress, with the Socialists at 104. Girauta also discussed the housing crisis, corruption cases involving Socialist officials and Sánchez's family, and the broader political stakes.
