"Soon Netanyahu will fall": The shift in election coverage in the Arab world

Dr. Edi Cohen, Channel 14's Arab affairs commentator, described how the Arab world celebrated the anticipated fall of Netanyahu yesterday, but this morning, as vote counting showed a lead for Likud, the tone changed. Cohen presented a Palestinian commentator who changed his message and claimed an Egyptian campaign against Netanyahu.

Channel 14's Arab affairs commentator, Dr. Edi Cohen, described in an interview with Lital Shemesh how coverage of the Israeli election results in the Arab world shifted. While yesterday, before the polls closed, elements in the Arab world celebrated the "fall" of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, this morning, as vote counting progressed showing a lead for Likud, the tone changed. Cohen presented a video of Palestinian commentator Sa'id Zihad, who resides in Qatar and is close to Al Jazeera, who changed his message from celebrating the fall of the right to criticizing both sides. Cohen attributed the change to the disappointment of those who hoped for Netanyahu's fall. Additionally, Cohen claimed that the voting in Arab society was preceded by extensive social media activity funded by unknown sources, and that Egyptian factors operated throughout the election campaign against Netanyahu.
