Shas distances itself from the Jerusalem faction protests: "Crazy people, we're fed up with you"

Shas harshly attacks the protesters of the Jerusalem faction after they tried to disrupt a party conference. In a sharp statement from Shas activists, it was written "Crazy people, we're fed up with you!" and they accuse the anarchist group of causing severe damage to the Haredi public and being funded by Kaplan protest supporters. The move aligns with Shas's statesmanlike line to distinguish itself from extremists.

Shas harshly attacks the protesters of the Jerusalem faction following an attempt to disrupt an official party conference attended by party chairman Aryeh Deri. In a statement distributed today (Thursday) under the signature "Shas activists" it was written: "Crazy people, we're fed up with you!". The activists accuse the "violent faction extremists" of being funded by Kaplan protest supporters, of trying to blow up the conference, and of harming the rabbinical emissaries. It was further claimed that the group "caused enormous damage to the Haredi public, continues to burn barns, sow destruction, and tarnish the name of the entire Haredi public". The harsh message aligns with the line Shas has been promoting in recent months to present itself as a statesmanlike factor that protects Torah scholars but does not stand against IDF soldiers. Among other things, an election video was mentioned that was removed by order of the chairman of the Central Elections Committee, showing a soldier returning home on Shabbat night, intended to refute claims of support for draft dodging.
