Sharp protest against Yashar candidate: 'He tortured Jews!'

Activists protested against former Shin Bet chief Yoram Cohen, accusing him of involvement in the torture of Jews during an investigation into the Duma case. The protest took place at a Yashar party meeting in Mitzpe Ramon. Party candidate Tal Ohana engaged with the protesters, expressing confidence in Cohen and the judicial system.

Activists from the 'Justice for Amiram' headquarters held a protest against the nomination of former Shin Bet chief Yoram Cohen to the Knesset from the Yashar party. The protest took place on Thursday evening at a party event in Mitzpe Ramon. Participants brought signs reading: 'He who tortured Jews is unworthy of a seat in the Knesset' and 'Torturing Jews is not Yashar-like.' They claim that during the investigation into the Duma case, Amira Ben-Uliel and another minor suspect were subjected to torture. Knesset candidate Tal Ohana came out to the protesters and engaged in dialogue. She thanked them for expressing their opinion but stated that she trusts Cohen and the Israeli judicial system, which she said performed its work in good faith. Ohana acknowledged that she had not studied the case materials as thoroughly as the protesters but fully trusts the court. The protesters insist that in Israel, there should be no conviction based on a confession obtained under torture.
