Revolution on the plate: The sandwich that will help you lose weight
A new comprehensive study published in the European Heart Journal suggests that daily consumption of a sandwich made from two slices of whole wheat bread may lead to weight loss, waist circumference reduction, lower cholesterol, and a decreased risk of heart attack. The researchers analyzed 87 clinical trials and found that 48 grams of whole grains per day are associated with an average reduction of 0.2 kg in body fat.
A new comprehensive study published in the scientific journal European Heart Journal and reviewed in the Daily Mail suggests that daily consumption of a sandwich made from two slices of whole wheat bread may lead to weight loss and reduced health risks. The researchers, led by Dr. Hilda Tutunchi from Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in Iran, analyzed 87 existing clinical trials and examined data from over 6,500 individuals across Asia, Europe, the US, Canada, and Brazil. The findings show that consuming 48 grams of whole grains per day—an amount equivalent to two slices of whole wheat bread or a bowl of oatmeal—was associated with an average reduction of about 0.2 kilograms in body fat and a decrease of 0.22 centimeters in waist circumference. Additionally, there was a reduction in total cholesterol, particularly LDL ("bad cholesterol"), a decrease in triglyceride levels, and a reduction in systolic blood pressure. The most significant improvement was observed with a consumption of 60 to 100 grams of whole grains per day, where the reduction in blood pressure was three times greater. The article presents the study as a simple and accessible dietary recommendation.
