A report revealed Israeli espionage targeting dozens of Arab journalists through malicious electronic advertisements. In mid-October, the Canadian cyber watchdog group Citizen Lab disclosed that 45 Windows devices on the Al Jazeera media network were compromised using Israeli software between 2024 and 2025. Citizen Lab explained that the Israeli digital advertising agency 'Discover-Tech' spied on internet users through a wide network of electronic advertisements, used to track specific targets and help hack their devices. This represents the first publicly documented technical evidence of commercial espionage attacks carried out in this manner. Mohsen Al-Khudaisi, an expert in artificial intelligence and information security, believes that what Al Jazeera experienced is not an isolated incident, but comes within a recurring context of targeting media outlets that their adversaries see as a threat to their interests. He calls on users, especially journalists, to adhere to security precautions, most notably completely refraining from opening links or files from unknown or untrusted sources.
