Report: Israel obstructs construction of military base for so-called 'Peace Council' in Gaza
The Guardian reported that Israel continues to obstruct a project to establish a major military base for the so-called 'Peace Council' chaired by Trump in Gaza. The council awarded a construction contract to an American company to build a site for 150 international soldiers, but Israel prevents contractors and trucks from entering two months after the contract was awarded. The base covers an area of 10,000 square meters.
The British newspaper The Guardian reported that Israel continues to obstruct a project to establish a major military base for the so-called 'Peace Council', chaired by US President Donald Trump, in the Gaza Strip. The council issued its first construction contract in the Strip at the beginning of last August, awarding it to Arkel International, based in Louisiana, USA, to build an advanced military site accommodating 150 international soldiers, forming the vanguard of an international stabilization force. The newspaper quoted an informed source as saying that Israel is still obstructing the construction of the base two months after the contract was awarded, explaining that 'contractors and trucks are not allowed to enter Gaza and begin work.' The planned base covers an area of about 10,000 square meters and is expected to host 150 soldiers on short-term deployment missions, out of 500 personnel already sent from Morocco and Kosovo. The newspaper described the Israeli obstruction as a 'severe blow' to the council's work. No comment was issued by the council or the Israeli government. The council believes that the Israeli government will allow the project to proceed after the Israeli elections scheduled for October 27.
