The crisis threatens to worsen the situation of the injured and sick, and comes after the Kuwaiti Hospital announced a reduction in its services for the same reason.
A shortage of diesel supplies is forcing the administration of Al-Wafa Medical Rehabilitation and Specialized Surgery Hospital in Gaza to significantly reduce its services. The hospital has suspended outpatient services, surgical operations, and physical and occupational therapy halls, depriving about 100 daily visitors of rehabilitation sessions and threatening the condition of 75 hospitalized patients and injured individuals. The crisis comes after the Kuwaiti Hospital in Al-Mawasi announced a reduction in its services for the same reason. The injured patient Hakam Hajjaj, who suffers from hemiplegia due to a shrapnel injury a year and a half ago, said that canceling rehabilitation sessions leads to a deterioration in his condition and muscle building. Meanwhile, Aref Saadat, a patient hospitalized for a month and a half and suffering from hemiplegia for 25 years, confirmed that his condition cannot tolerate any interruption in sessions. The head of the physical therapy department, Dr. Samah Al-Drimli, explained that each patient receives a program of 12 consecutive sessions, and that interruption increases pain, inflammation, and joint stiffness. She noted that there are 700 patients on the waiting list. The hospital spokesperson, Ahed Alwan, warned that the worsening fuel crisis will lead to a halt in essential services and could result in the death of coma and stroke patients, calling on international institutions to intervene.
