The operation, coordinated with Somali authorities, included a chase and an ambush that surprised the hijackers. The tanker, "Sibo 1," was owned by an Iraqi citizen and operated by an Iraqi crew. Authorities in the Puntland region of Somalia confirmed the release of the ship. Meanwhile, three additional tankers are still held by the pirates: "Onur 25," "MT Eureka," and "MT Asana." Two of them carry fuel worth millions of dollars, and pirates have been observed unloading barrels of fuel for sale on the black market. Piracy off the coast of Somalia peaked in 2011, but international naval forces have reduced the phenomenon.
