Google unveiled a special transcription tool – and you won't have to pay for it
Google has launched Google AI Edge Foresight, a free transcription and meeting summary app that runs entirely locally on Mac computers, without sending data to the cloud. The tool is based on Gemma models and enables live transcription, meeting summaries, and question-asking. However, it requires 7 GB of storage, supports only macOS with Apple Silicon processors, and does not allow uploading pre-recorded audio files.
Google has launched Google AI Edge Foresight, a free transcription and meeting summary app that runs entirely locally on Mac computers, without sending data to the cloud. The tool combines the EmbeddingGemma 2 model (740 million parameters) with a language model from the Gemma 4 series (2B, 4B, or 12B parameters). The app enables real-time live transcription during in-person meetings or video calls on Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams, alongside manual note-taking. At the end of a meeting, the system cross-references notes against the full transcript and generates a structured protocol. Additionally, the app allows connecting local folders and documents in various formats, chatting with the Gemma model about past meeting content, and surfacing real-time answers via the Live Assistance feature. The irony: the app is exclusively available for Apple's macOS, despite Google recently launching its Googlebook computers. Limitations include a storage requirement of about 7 GB, support only for Apple Silicon processors (M1 and above), inability to upload pre-recorded audio files, and compatibility with English only at this stage, with no Hebrew support.
