Pregnant mountain gazelle found caged in a yard in a village near Hebron

An adult mountain gazelle in an advanced stage of pregnancy was found caged in a yard in the village of Idna, in the Hebron sector. Forces operated based on intelligence information. The gazelle was transferred to the wildlife hospital at the Safari, where its physical condition was found to be fair and the pregnancy normal. A suspect was arrested on suspicion of illegal hunting, possession, harm, and trade in protected natural assets.

An adult mountain gazelle in an advanced stage of pregnancy was found last night (Thursday) being held illegally in a cage in a yard of a house in the village of Idna, in the Hebron sector. Detectives from the Southern Border Police YAMAR, Border Police Judea and Samaria fighters, and inspectors from the Israel Nature and Parks Authority operated at the scene following intelligence guidance. During a search of a suspect's home, the forces located the gazelle caged in the yard. The gazelle was transferred by Nature and Parks Authority inspectors for further veterinary care at the wildlife hospital at the Safari in Ramat Gan. An initial examination found its physical condition to be fair, but signs of captivity are evident. It was also found that the fetus is viable and the pregnancy is normal at this stage. The suspect was arrested and is being investigated by the Nature and Parks Authority on suspicion of illegal hunting, possession, harm, and trade in protected natural assets.
